TENSEGRITY: Introduction to Eccentric Contraction Technique

ECCENTRIC CONTRACTION is key tactic for care and maintenance of body as VESSEL of energy: strong & supple. It should be stable and alive, a.k.a. breathable.

For every muscular contraction (=effort) there should be an equal degree of relaxation (=softening of effort) achieved by transferring some of contraction effort (=tension) to other places in the body.

The goal is to achieve BIOTENSEGRITY – tension integrity, where all parts – bones, muscles, ligaments EVERYWHERE bear the weight and tension of a particular pose. So that every asana becomes like a living breathing sculpture: stable and quiet, yet alive and supple, ready to adjust as needed. And, if there is impact in one place (like the heal, for example, in a lunge), then the rest of body can take on some of the impact, lightening the load on the said heel.

In this way we are still practicing asana as ONE WHOLE Unit – body, breath, mind – one vessel that carries our Soul. No leaks.

Watch the tutorial and integrate eccentric contraction into practice of asana.
